Movies

Here are some movies I recommend, and why:)

Titanic
One of my favorite love stories. Rose, a girl full of life but stuffed down by her pompous, upper-class mother and fiance to the point of wanting to give up her life, is saved by Jack, a poor yet genuine and passionate young man who sees and loves her for who she truly is. Though their love is challenged in many ways, within each other they have found an eternal love…a love that will last no matter the distance and spaces between them.

Forrest Gump
Though the love between Forrest and Jenni is only part of a long story, it is a beautiful example of realizing what true love really is. Forrest loves Jenni from the time they are very young…she is his childhood sweetheart, and the simplicity of his heart makes so that throughout his entire life he never wants another girl. Jenni, on the other hand, is beautiful, adventurous, and wants to taste life and not be held back by the “foolish” love of a mentally challenged man (though she loves him greatly as a friend)…but she gets herself in many dangerous, unhealthy situations and relationships. After many years she finally understands Forrest’s unconditional love for her.

A Walk to Remember

Though I found the book more genuine than the movie, the movie is still beautiful. Jamie, a plain, devout Christian girl often made fun of by her high school peers, changes forever the life of cool, popular Landon, and their community, when she helps him see what’s truly important and beautiful in life and he falls in love with her.

13 Going on 30
This hilarious movie is the most perfect example of embodying the Human side mentioned in Fascinating Womanhood, i.e. the side that is radiant, childlike, and very feminine. Though Jennifer Garner plays a 30 year old who is actually only 13 in maturity-level, there is a lot to learn from this character! I believe many women have let life slowly drain them, so that they’ve become much more tired, cynical, and serious than they need to be. This movie is a reminder that it’s ok for a grown woman to be girly, innocent, free, and fun, and she can still be successful and loved!
